I love the many, deep pockets. The front is waterproof; I do not know if the back is waterproof but the thick padding provides protection. The clip in the second pocket is detachable. The water holder on the side is stretchable; I am able to fit my one liter water bottle. My 17 inch laptop fits in the secret back pocket; this pocket has blue bubble-like padding and stretchy Velcro straps that attach on the sides and front to hold the laptop in. I have two critiques - the lock can be a bit difficult to operate and I wish the straps were about one inch apart. When I have my laptop in the backpack the straps fit awkwardly on my shoulders; this is fixable when connecting the straps' chest strap, but as a female it's a bit awkward to have the strap connected. I am very satisfied with this backpack - some people may find the size of it a bit large, but I don't as my backpacks have always been on the big size and I like the square-like shape which allows for extra room.
