A purse is a small bag that may refer to:

Coin purse, in British English

A coin purse is a small money bag or pouch, similar to a wallet, but typically used by women and include a compartment for coins.[citation needed] In some countries, it is known simply as a purse.[citation needed] In other countries, such as the United States, the term purse refers to a handbag.

Handbag, in American English, as a modern article of fashion as per H J Cave's Modern interpretation。

A handbag, also purse or pouch in American English, is a handled medium-to-large bag that is often fashionably designed, typically used by women, to hold personal items such as wallet/coins, keys, cosmetics, a hairbrush, pepper spray, cigarettes, contraceptives, mobile phone etc.

    "Purse" or "Handbag"?

The term "purse" originally referred to a small bag for holding coins. In British English, it is still used to refer to a small coin bag. A "handbag" is a larger accessory, that holds items beyond currency, such as a woman's personal items. American English typically uses the terms "purse" and "handbag" interchangeably. The term "handbag" began appearing in the early 1900s. Initially, it was most often used to refer to men's hand-luggage. Women's accessory bags grew larger and more complex during that period, and the term was attached to the women's accessory.

Money bag

A money bag (moneybag, bag of money, money sack, sack of money, bag of gold, gold bag, sack of gold, etc.) is a bag (normally with a drawstring) of money (or gold) used to hold and transport coins and banknotes from/to a mint, bank, ATM, vending machine, business, or other institution.[1] Money bags are usually transported in an armored car or a money train and, in the past, via stagecoach.

A money bag can be road debris after it falls out of an armored truck,[2] causing a traffic accident[3] or mass hysteria often compared to a feeding frenzy, as people rush to pick up "free" money.[1]

Crumillospongia is a genus of middle Cambrian sponge named after its similarity to a small leathery money purse, or crumilla (Latin for "small, little purse").

Wallet

A wallet, or billfold, is a small, flat case that is used to carry personal items such as cash, credit cards, identification documents (driver's license, identification card, club card, etc.), photographs, business cards and other paper or laminated cards. Wallets are generally made of leather or fabrics, and they are usually pocket-sized and foldable.
